Indonesia's 2026 Economic Census Expands to Digital Businesses

Indonesia's Central Statistics Agency (BPS) is broadening the scope of the 2026 Economic Census to include online and digitally based enterprises. In Yogyakarta, Acting Head Endang Tri Wahyuningsih said the census will capture the shift from physical storefronts to internet‑driven businesses, with door‑to‑door data collection scheduled from 15 June to 31 August 2026.

In West Nusa Tenggara, Deputy Head of BPS Sonny Harry Budiutomo Harmadi launched the census, highlighting 658,000 registered units and a near‑60,000‑unit increase over the past decade. Officials emphasized collaboration with local governments, tourism operators, and the public, urging citizens to “TIR” – welcome census officers, provide accurate data, and keep information secure.
