Indonesia's 2026 Economic Census Sparks Local Support and Payment Dispute

Ciamis regent Herdiat Sunarya welcomed the arrival of Economic Census 2026 field officers from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS). He and his wife participated as respondents, stressing that accurate economic data are essential for effective development policies at both regional and national levels. Herdiat urged businesses and residents to provide truthful information and displayed a census sticker as a sign of commitment.

In Semarang, field enumerators complained that their first‑installment honor payments had not been received despite meeting contractual work targets. One enumerator, identified only as Tono, said the original contract required payment after completing 40 % of the workload, but BPS officials later told staff they must finish data collection for four local areas at 80 % completion before payment. BPS Semarang’s head, Rudi Cahyono, reaffirmed that the payment mechanism has not changed and remains tied to the contract terms.
