Indonesia's 2026 Economic Census to Guide Labor and Industry Policy
Indonesia’s 2026 Economic Census (SE2026) is being conducted by the Badan Pusat Statistik (BPS) from 15 June to 31 August, employing over 251,000 field staff to catalogue millions of enterprises, including household businesses. Minister of Labour Yassierli said the census will provide comprehensive data on sector growth, enterprise size, labor use and skill needs, enabling the government to map job creation, vocational training and productivity improvements.
The census captures the rapid digital transformation of the economy—businesses now operate via smartphones, social media, QRIS payments and AI‑driven marketing—shifting many activities from physical storefronts to online platforms. Results will inform policies aimed at sustaining Indonesia’s post‑pandemic recovery and advancing its goal of becoming a high‑skill, globally competitive economy.
