Indonesia's Abadi Masela LNG Project Groundbreaking Supported by PLN and President Prabowo
President Prabowo Subianto inaugurated the groundbreaking of the Abadi Masela liquefied natural gas (LNG) project in the Kepulauan Tanimbar district of Maluku, Indonesia, via video conference from Merdeka Palace on 16 July 2026. The project, the largest energy investment in Indonesia’s history, is valued at USD 20.9 billion and will be developed by INPEX Masela Ltd. (65% stake) together with PT Pertamina (20%) and Petronas (15%).
State electricity utility PT PLN (Persero) ensured reliable power for the ceremony, deploying the Saumlaki power plant, backup generators and uninterruptible power supplies. PLN officials highlighted that stable electricity is essential for regional development, investment attraction and the smooth execution of strategic national agendas.
