Indonesia's Agriculture Ministry Cracks Down on Poultry Trade Over Falling Farm Prices

Deputy Minister of Agriculture Sudaryono announced that the ministry will intensify monitoring of the broiler chicken and egg supply chain after farm‑gate prices fell sharply, leaving producers with losses. The government, together with the Food Security Task Force and law‑enforcement agencies, warned it will impose sanctions, including criminal proceedings, against businesses that exploit the price gap.

Effective 15 July 2026, reference prices were set at Rp19 500 per kilogram for live broiler birds and Rp24 000 per kilogram for chicken eggs. The ministry cited oversupply and weak consumer demand as drivers of the price pressure and said it would coordinate with farmer groups and traders to maintain market balance.

Meanwhile, farm‑level live‑bird prices have begun to rise, moving from around Rp13 000/kg in June to about Rp20 000/kg, but remain close to producers’ cost range of Rp20‑22 000/kg. Input costs, especially feed and day‑old chicks, have also increased. Egg prices at the farm level linger at Rp21‑22 000/kg, below the cost base of Rp23‑24 000/kg. The Directorate General of Animal Husbandry urged feed producers not to raise prices during July to help stabilize the market.
