Indonesia Boosts AI-Integrated Education From University Programs to Teacher Training

Indonesia is expanding the use of artificial intelligence in education across multiple sectors. UNESCO notes AI’s growing role in learning, while also warning of academic integrity risks when students rely on AI tools to complete assignments. In response, Microsoft, together with the Biji‑biji Initiative and Save the Children Indonesia, launched the Microsoft AI Classroom Toolkit on 23 June 2026 in Jakarta. The toolkit provides resources for teachers to teach AI literacy to students aged 13‑15, including workshops on responsible AI use, data privacy and bias.

Universitas Terbuka’s rector highlighted the need for flexible, work‑compatible higher‑education programmes, noting a recent graduation ceremony that included professionals, athletes and senior learners. Similarly, Universitas Esa Unggul held an Open Day in Bekasi to showcase global‑standard curricula, modern labs and partnerships such as with Arizona State University, emphasizing preparation for an AI‑driven labour market.

Telkom Indonesia’s BISA Vokasi programme delivered AI training for 200 teachers in Tarakan (17‑18 June 2026), teaching ethical and practical AI integration in classrooms. Together, these initiatives illustrate a coordinated push to embed AI responsibly throughout Indonesia’s education system, from primary schools to universities and teacher development.
