Indonesia's AI push sees university-industry partnership and business strategy shift
On 5 June 2026, Universitas Kristen Petra in Surabaya hosted a joint event with Chinese AI analytics firm Guandata to strengthen student competence in data‑driven decision‑making. Program head Indriati Njoto Bisono highlighted two tracks: modernising corporate decisions with AI‑driven analytics and preparing graduates for a data‑centric job market. Guandata CEO Chase Su noted that the key challenge in the AI era is turning available data into clear, actionable decisions.
Separately, AI is reshaping how consumers in Indonesia search for information. Global reports show that 88 % of organisations now use AI in at least one function, and tools like ChatGPT have reached one billion active users. Experts warn that companies must improve their digital footprints—structured content, credible sources and clear branding—to be accurately represented by AI systems. Failure to do so can reduce visibility in AI‑generated answers and recommendations, potentially harming business outcomes.
Together, these developments underscore a broader push in Indonesia to integrate AI across education and commerce, prompting both institutions and firms to adapt to an increasingly data‑driven environment.
