Sudaryono named head of Indonesia's National Nutrition Agency

President Prabowo Subianto accepted the resignation of Nanik Sudaryati Deyang as head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) after she cited serious heart‑related health issues and a need for treatment abroad. Deyang announced her departure on 22 July 2026 and indicated she would continue to monitor the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme.

On 22 July 2026 the president appointed Vice‑Minister of Agriculture Sudaryono as the new BGN chief. Sudaryono was sworn in at the State Palace and immediately pledged transparent, corruption‑free management of the MBG programme, stressing that he owns no kitchen facilities and will tolerate no “name‑cutting” or nepotism. He asked the public to report any misuse of his name and announced a tightening of food‑safety standards after several poisoning incidents were reported.

Sudaryono also directed BGN staff to focus on system‑based governance and to avoid being distracted by ongoing legal investigations involving previous officials. He reaffirmed the continuation of the MBG programme as a political priority of the Prabowo administration, aiming to improve child nutrition, support farmers and livestock producers, and reduce stunting. In parallel, the agency completed a reshuffle of its deputy leadership, appointing new deputies for systems, procurement, promotion, monitoring and finance.

The leadership change is accompanied by plans for a supervisory board that may include the former chief, ensuring continuity of oversight while the new chief implements reforms and strengthens the program’s operational framework.
