Indonesia's Bapanas to Distribute 997,200 tonnes of rice to 33.2 million families

The National Food Agency (Bapanas) confirmed that 997,200 tonnes of rice will be delivered to 33.24 million eligible families (KPM) in a single‑shot distribution starting in August 2026. Each household will receive 10 kg of rice per month for three months, amounting to roughly one million tonnes of rice reaching consumers at once.

Deputy for Availability and Stabilisation, I Gusti Ketut Astawa said the rollout will proceed once the Additional State Budget (ABT) is approved and entered into Bapanas’s budget list (DIPA). After budget approval, Bapanas will task state-owned grain firm Bulog to execute the distribution. The first‑stage assistance, covering February–March 2026, reached 99.7 % of its target, delivering 664,880 tonnes of rice and 132,970 kilolitres of cooking oil to 33.14 million families.

Combined, the two stages are projected to total about 1.66 million tonnes of rice for 2026 – a 133.8 % increase over 2025. The government expects the large‑scale aid, together with the Stabilisation of Supply and Price of Rice (SPHP) program and the Cheap Food Movement, to curb rice demand in markets, stabilize prices and help contain food‑price inflation.
