Indonesia's Baznas advances zakat partnerships with Persis and DPR

Indonesia's Badan Amil Zakat Nasional (Baznas) announced an expanded collaboration with the Persatuan Islam (Persis) central board and its zakat‑management arm, LAZ Persis. Baznas chair Sodik Mudjahid said the partnership will broaden empowerment programs such as scholarships from preschool to university level, support for micro‑small enterprises, and housing assistance, noting, "Ke depan, sinergi ini dapat diperkuat melalui berbagai program prioritas yang berorientasi pada peningkatan kesejahteraan umat." Persis leaders welcomed the continued support, citing benefits for scholarship recipients.

In a parallel move, Baznas and the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) discussed establishing a Unit Pengumpul Zakat (UPZ) within the DPR’s AKD facilities. The UPZ aims to simplify zakat, infaq, and shadaqah (ZIS) contributions by parliamentary staff and boost fund collection for charitable projects. The initiative also includes revitalising the Masjid Amal Pancasila and introducing programs like Baznas Microfinance Masjid and ZCorner to enhance mosque‑based economic activities.
