Indonesia FM Sugiono Reaffirms Support for Palestine and Gaza Reconstruction
Indonesia’s foreign minister, Retno Sugiono, met Palestinian Social Development Minister Samah Hamad on the sidelines of the 59th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Manila. Sugiono pledged continued political, diplomatic and humanitarian assistance for the Palestinian people, emphasizing Indonesia’s role in capacity‑building for the Palestinian Authority and in the reconstruction of Gaza. He reiterated that aid will be coordinated with the Palestinian Authority to ensure it reaches those in need, citing that more than 1,000 Palestinians have been killed and 3,200 injured since the cease‑fire, and overall casualties since October 7 2023 exceed 73,000 dead and 173,000 wounded. The minister noted broad public support in Indonesia for these efforts.
In a separate statement, Sugiono joined seven fellow foreign ministers from Muslim‑majority states to condemn Israel’s large‑scale incursions into Al‑Aqsa Mosque, calling the actions violations of international law and UN resolutions. The joint declaration underscored Indonesia’s commitment to a two‑state solution and the protection of holy sites.
