Indonesia's Baznas teams with Social Ministry on extreme poverty programs

The National Zakat Agency (Baznas) and Indonesia’s Ministry of Social Affairs have deepened their cooperation to support the government’s strategy for reducing extreme poverty. The partnership will channel zakat, infak and sadaqah funds toward projects such as housing for the homeless, scholarships, school construction, health services, small‑business development and humanitarian aid, guided by the National Single Social and Economic Data (DTSEN). Ministry of Social Affairs head Saifullah Yusuf said the joint actions aim to deliver measurable, sustainable impact for vulnerable families, citing past collaborations that relocated fisher families in Lampung and Indramayu.

In addition, Baznas launched a vocational training scheme for 40 women in Tangerang, providing skills in spa therapy, bekam and Islamic‑compliant massage. Coordinated with Latifa Spa Academy, the program seeks to transform participants into economically active mustahik who can contribute back through zakat. Trainer Idy Muzayyad highlighted the initiative as part of Baznas’s broader effort to turn zakat resources into productive, poverty‑alleviating enterprises.
