Indonesia's BMKG forecasts heavy rain in Central Java and heightened fire risk in Central Kalimantan

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) issued two regional outlooks for Indonesia. At its Ahmad Yani station in Semarang, BMKG predicted that Central Java will see mostly sunny to cloudy conditions in the morning of 13 June 2026, with a chance of light to heavy rain developing from midday through the evening, especially in southern and eastern parts of Semarang. Temperatures are expected to range between 19 °C and 34 °C with humidity from 55 % to 95 %. The agency warned of possible flooding, landslides, strong winds, lightning and raised sea‑wave heights up to 2.5 m in the northern and southern coastal waters.

Meanwhile, BMKG’s Kotim station in Sampit, Central Kalimantan, cautioned that the onset of the dry season in early June will increase the risk of forest and land fires (karhutla), particularly in peat‑rich southern districts such as Pulau Hanaut, Teluk Sampit and Mentaya Hilir Selatan. The dry period is projected to last 100‑120 days, peaking in August‑September, with easterly winds that could carry smoke toward Sampit. The agency also highlighted potential clean‑water shortages as river flows decline.

Both forecasts call for heightened public vigilance and prudent water use as the season progresses.
