Bangka Belitung police construct new homes for fire victims while Bengkulu fire razes four houses

The Regional Police of the Bangka Belitung Islands (Polda Babel) inaugurated the construction of new homes for residents whose houses were destroyed in a fire in Mentok, West Bangka. Thirteen houses are being built as part of the police’s 80th‑anniversary Bhayangkara program, with Kapolda Irjen Pol Viktor T. Sihombing saying the dwellings symbolize safety, comfort and welfare. One beneficiary, Akuan Lege, expressed gratitude for receiving a rebuilt house that is better than the previous one; construction began on 20 June 2026 and the ceremony was attended by local officials.

In South Bengkulu, a blaze on 13 July 2026 destroyed four permanent houses and a shop in the village of Dusun Tengah. The fire, suspected to have been caused by an electrical short circuit, was reported at 14:22 WIB. Two fire trucks and 25 personnel from the district fire department fought the flames for about 90 minutes before extinguishing them. No injuries were reported, but material losses are estimated at roughly Rp 600 million. Authorities advised residents to regularly inspect home electrical installations to prevent similar incidents.
