Indonesia's BMKG warns of widespread rain and extreme weather on July 1, 2026

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) issued several weather forecasts for Indonesia on July 1, 2026. In Semarang, the forecast called for clear skies in the morning, turning to partly cloudy conditions in the evening, with temperatures ranging from 22.6 °C to 35 °C and humidity between 40 % and 75 %.

BMKG also warned that tropical cyclone seed 96W, currently over the Philippines north of Sulawesi, could bring moderate rain to North Kalimantan despite a low chance of developing into a full cyclone. The agency highlighted the potential for high waves along the coast.

A broader national outlook predicted rain of varying intensity across many major Indonesian cities on Wednesday, including thunderstorms in Tanjung Pinang, Tanjung Selor, and Nabire, and light rain covering most of Sumatra and parts of Kalimantan. Cities such as Jakarta, Bandung, Semarang, Yogyakarta, Surabaya, and others were expected to see cloudy skies.

In Kediri, weather was forecast to remain clear from 09:00 to 22:00 before turning into a fog‑like condition that could reduce visibility late at night. Temperatures were expected between 22 °C and 29 °C with southeast winds up to 22 km/h.

Finally, BMKG highlighted that July marks the peak of the dry season nationwide, yet heavy rain remains possible in numerous provinces, especially in Aceh, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Maluku and Papua, urging residents to stay alert for flooding, landslides and related hazards.
