Indonesia-wide BMKG forecast warns of cloudy skies and high seas on July 21, 2026

The Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) issued a series of forecasts for July 21, 2026 covering most of the archipelago. In Maluku, Papua Barat Daya, West Java, Central Java, Sumatra, Jawa Barat, Jakarta and surrounding provinces the agency expects largely cloudy to partly sunny conditions, with isolated light rain in several districts and heightened fire risk in dry high‑land areas.

BMKG also released early‑warning notices of elevated wave heights across Indonesia’s coastal waters. Wave heights of 2.5–4 m are forecast for the western Indian Ocean off Bengkulu, Lampung, Banten, West Java and parts of Central and East Java, while heights of 0.5–2.5 m are expected in the northern Java Sea and southern Central Java. The agency advises fishermen, cargo vessels and passenger ferries to exercise caution, citing wind speeds that could exceed safety thresholds for small boats.

Additional alerts note a cyclonic circulation in the northern Pacific near Papua that may enhance rain bands over central and eastern Indonesia, increasing the chance of moderate to heavy rain in areas such as Jambi, Riau, Kalimantan, Maluku Utara and parts of Sulawesi. BMKG urges residents to stay informed and heed local advisories on flooding, landslides and fire hazards.
