Indonesia's BMKG rolls out air quality and heavy‑rain early warning systems

The Jakarta provincial government and the national Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) are developing an Early Warning System for air quality. Using the SILAM Urban spatial modelling platform, the system will generate three‑day forecasts for all 44 districts of Jakarta, enabling residents to take preventive actions against pollution and protect public health.

BMKG also issued a weather early‑warning for heavy rain on 8 June 2026, placing several Indonesian regions—including Bangka Belitung, West Sulawesi, parts of Kalimantan and other areas—on alert for flash‑flood risk and strong winds. Authorities urged the public to monitor official BMKG channels for updates and to prepare for possible sudden weather changes.
