Indonesia's BMKG warns of extreme rain in Sulawesi Tenggara and tidal floods in East Java

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) issued public warnings for two separate weather threats across Indonesia in mid‑June 2026. In Sulawesi Tenggara, BMKG forecasted heavy to very heavy rain with thunderstorms and strong winds affecting Konawe, Konawe Utara, Kolaka, Kolaka Utara, Konawe Utara, and Kolaka Timur from 13 June through 19 June, urging residents to stay alert for flooding, landslides, and falling trees.

Separately, BMKG’s maritime office in Tanjung Perak warned that a Super New Moon could raise sea‑level tides and cause coastal flood (rob) in several districts of East Java, including Surabaya, Sidoarjo, Pasuruan, Tuban, Lamongan, Gresik, Banyuwangi and Kalianget, between 12 June and 18 June. The agency advised coastal communities to monitor water levels and prepare for possible disruption to port operations, transport, aquaculture and local livelihoods.
