Indonesia’s BPS chief Amalia Widyasanti launches 2026 Economic Census in North Maluku

Head of Indonesia’s Statistics Agency (BPS), Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti, officiated the launch of the 2026 Economic Census (SE2026) in the province of North Maluku on 18 June 2026 in Ternate. The census will run from 15 June to 31 August 2026 and aims to capture the province’s rapid economic transformation, marked by a shift from agriculture to a booming nickel downstream industry that has driven double‑digit growth.

Amalia highlighted the need for accurate data to guide policy and noted the province’s potential in tourism, spice processing and other value‑added sectors. Governor Sherly Tjoanda and local officials pledged support, urging businesses and residents to cooperate with census officers using the “TIR” principle – welcome officers, provide correct information, and protect data confidentiality.
