Indonesia expands KDKMP cooperatives to boost UMKM and rural economy

Indonesia is accelerating the rollout of Koperasi Desa/Kelurahan Merah Putih (KDKMP) to strengthen rural economies and micro‑small enterprises. In Demak, Central Java, 142 cooperatives are ready for operation, with infrastructure such as electricity, internet, furniture, cash registers and transport vehicles installed; the remaining villages are expected to be functional by early August 2026. Nationwide, KDKMP transaction volume reached roughly Rp62 billion, driven chiefly by fertilizer sales, indicating strong demand for agricultural inputs among villagers.

The government is pairing the cooperatives with digital and commercial partners. The Ministry of UMKM, together with Tokopedia and TikTok Shop, provided legal assistance and video‑content training, reporting order increases of 59‑135 percent for participating merchants. Pertamina and Pelita Air launched the PAS Sky Shop program, offering UMKM products to airline passengers at cruising altitude, reaffirming the state’s commitment to UMKM empowerment.

Additional support includes a community radio station for KDKMPs in Banyuwangi to disseminate price and availability information, and a presidential push for regulatory frameworks, emphasizing KDKMPs as a strategic national project that will channel hundreds of trillions of rupiah in subsidy and social‑protection funds.

These coordinated efforts aim to create a nationwide distribution network for essential goods, expand market access for micro‑enterprises, and generate quality jobs in Indonesia’s villages.
