Indonesia's cooperatives post volume surge, revive historic Tugu site

In North Sumatra, the cooperative sector posted a record business volume of more than Rp7.47 trillion up to July 2026, encompassing 17,994 cooperatives with 68 % institutional activity. The sector generated surplus earnings of Rp377.4 billion and served 1,531,520 members. Village and sub‑district cooperatives numbered 6,100 units, of which 629 outlets are operational, and 13 cooperatives recorded transactions worth Rp347.5 million across several districts.

In West Java's Tasikmalaya, Ministers of Cooperatives Ferry Juliantono and Culture Fadli Zon inaugurated a revitalization project for the historic Tugu Koperasi, the site of Indonesia’s first Cooperative Congress in 1947. The project aims to preserve the heritage landmark as a cultural and educational centre and to stimulate cooperative‑driven economic growth through collaboration among local governments, private firms and state‑owned enterprises.
