Indonesia's Deputy Food Minister Hanif Nurofiq advances food estates and corn self‑sufficiency

Deputy Coordinating Minister for Food Hanif Faisol Nurofiq said the government will strengthen risk‑management across sectors to improve the Food Estate project in Central Kalimantan. The initiative, part of the National Food, Energy and Water Self‑Sufficiency Zone (KPEAN), will focus on developing farmland outside protected forests and coordinate ministries of Agriculture and Infrastructure.

In East Java’s Ponorogo regency, Hanif urged local authorities to boost corn and rice yields using modern technology and youth involvement. He highlighted the region’s 35,000‑hectare agricultural base, capable of triple‑cropping, and cited national targets of 16.16 million tonnes of corn and over 34 million tonnes of rice by 2025. Ponorogo’s projected 284 000 tonnes of corn and 436 000 tonnes of rice would make it a key grain hub, supporting Indonesia’s broader swasembada (self‑sufficiency) agenda.
