Indonesia faces mixed rain, heat and drier dry season warnings from BMKG

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) issued multiple forecasts for July 31, 2026. In West Java, light to moderate rain is expected across Bogor, Depok, Bekasi, Bandung and many surrounding districts. Central Java faces localized showers, especially in Banjarnegara, Wonosobo, Temanggung, Kendal and Batang, while high winds and wave heights of up to 2.5 m are forecast for the coastal zone, raising flood‑rob concerns.

In Riau province, light rain is possible in Bengkalis, Indragiri Hulu and Pekanbaru, with the number of fire hotspots falling to four. The Malang‑Batu area of East Java will experience the lowest nighttime temperatures, down to 14 °C, due to the bediding cold‑air phenomenon.

BMKG also warned that this year’s dry season will be drier than normal, peaking in August–September, and projected an elevated fire‑risk with about 4,900 hotspots, concentrated in West Kalimantan, Riau, South Papua, Aceh and East Kalimantan. A weather‑modification operation is under way in South Sumatra and Central Kalimantan. Climate projections indicate a 1.55 °C rise in 2024, with expected increases of 1.6 °C (2021‑2050) and 3.4 °C (2071‑2100) for Indonesia.
