Indonesia Oil and Gas Bill revision sparks concerns over Pertamina and labor rights
The proposed revision of Indonesia's Oil and Gas Bill, which includes the potential transition of SKK Migas into a Special Business Entity (BUK Migas), is drawing scrutiny from energy observers and labor unions.
Energy policy observer Sofyano Zakaria warned that the new institutional design must not diminish the strategic role of PT Pertamina (Persero). He cautioned that if Pertamina is relegated to a standard contractor role rather than a national energy instrument, it could weaken national energy security and increase reliance on imports.
Simultaneously, the SKK Migas Workers Union (SP SKK Migas) has elected Aldy Amir as its new chairman for the 2026–2028 term. The union is actively seeking communication with the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) to ensure that workers' rights and job security are addressed during the legislative revision process.
