DPR RI commits to passing Asset Forfeiture Bill by December 2026

The leadership of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) has committed to passing the Asset Forfeiture Bill (RUU Perampasan Aset) by December 15, 2026. Following audiences with community groups, DPR Deputy Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad stated that leadership members are prepared to resign from their positions if the bill is not ratified by the deadline.

Commission III is currently refining the bill's scope, focusing on economic crimes such as corruption, narcotics, and terrorism. The commission is considering international benchmarks, such as New Zealand’s threshold for criminal penalties and asset values, to ensure the mechanism for seizing assets without a criminal conviction remains proportional. Experts note that under this bill, political parties could be held liable as legal entities, allowing for the seizure of assets linked to money laundering without waiting for a specific individual's criminal verdict.

Political support for the bill remains active, with PDIP Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto affirming the party's proactive stance on anti-corruption measures. Meanwhile, community groups and organizations like the Large Family of Polri's Sons and Daughters (KBPP Polri) have called for the legislation to be strictly monitored to ensure it moves beyond political rhetoric into effective legal enforcement.
