Indonesia's East Java and North Sumatra Push Accelerated Funding for Infrastructure

The East Java provincial government has allocated Rp19 billion to Trenggalek to speed up land acquisition for the Southern Cross Road (JLS) project. The road, spanning from Pacitan to Banyuwangi, is about 60 % complete, with land clearance identified as the main remaining obstacle.

In North Sumatra, Acting Regional Secretary Sulaiman Harahap urged all regencies and cities receiving the 2026 Provincial Financial Assistance (BKP) to fast‑track tendering, contracting and project implementation. As of mid‑June, only six of 29 areas had completed the tender process, despite funds already being available. Officials emphasized that execution, not paperwork, is needed to deliver promised roads, irrigation, schools and other public services.
