Indonesia's Eastern Volcanoes Erupt Simultaneously
On 12 June 2026, three active volcanoes in eastern Indonesia—Mount Dukono in North Halmahera, Mount Ibu in West Halmahera, and Mount Lewotobi Laki‑laki on East Flores—erupted within minutes of each other, each sending ash plumes 400‑500 metres high.
The Geological Agency of the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry recorded ash drifting northwest from Dukono, westward from Lewotobi and Ibu, and raised alert levels to Level III (Alert) for Lewotobi and Level II (Warning) for Ibu and Dukono. Officials warned residents within a two‑to‑five kilometre radius to stay clear of the craters, wear masks and eye protection, and avoid travel, noting the risk of ash fallout and rain‑triggered lava floods. No casualties or significant damage were reported.
