Indonesia’s Economy Grows 5.6% in Q1 2026, Signaling Continued Stability

Indonesia’s Gross Domestic Product expanded by 5.61% year‑on‑year in the first quarter of 2026, according to the Badan Pusat Statistik. The increase surpasses the 4.87% growth recorded for the same period a year earlier and reflects strong domestic consumption, rising investment and responsive government policies. Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa highlighted the result as evidence that the country has moved beyond the “5 percent growth curse.”

Agricultural output also showed resilience, with the BPS reporting that corn production in May 2026 reached 1.18 million tonnes, a 19.79% rise from the previous year. While the overall harvested area has slightly contracted, production remains robust, supported primarily by East Java, which contributed 2.81 million tonnes—about a quarter of national output. Other key provinces include Central Java, Lampung, South Sulawesi and North Sumatra. The data suggest that despite regional variances, Indonesia’s food‑grain supply chain remains stable as the country navigates broader economic challenges.
