Indonesia's Education Ministry revamps 18 schools in Nias with Rp14.23 bn upgrade
The Ministry of Education and Culture allocated Rp14.23 billion for a school‑revitalisation program covering 18 educational units in the Nias Islands of North Sumatra. The funding, part of the 2025 budget, will refurbish one early‑childhood centre, seven primary schools, four junior high schools, four senior high schools, one vocational school and one community learning centre. Improvements include new classrooms, expanded sanitation facilities, the addition of school health units (UKS) and better overall learning environments.
Principal Hilizarito Ogamuli Geyam of SD 076698 noted the school previously lacked a health unit and had only two toilets; after the upgrade it now has a fully equipped UKS and six toilet stalls. Teacher Ester Zunia at SMA Pembda 1 in Gunungsitoli said the former leaky, overheated classrooms are now dry and comfortable even during heavy rain. Gunungsitoli Mayor Sowa'a Laoli praised the central‑government support as essential for raising educational quality in the region.
