Indonesia's Food Coordinator Zulkifli Hasan Announces MBG Review and Waste‑to‑Energy Regulation Reform
Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs Zulkifli Hasan said his ministry will spend a month examining problems in the free nutritious meals (MBG) program, including misuse of kitchen sites, before reporting findings to President Prabowo Subianto. The review aims to resolve issues that have delayed food distribution to schoolchildren, toddlers, pregnant and nursing mothers.
Hasan also announced a simplification of the regulatory framework for waste‑to‑energy (PSEL) projects, cutting hundreds of rules down to three major regulations. The move is intended to speed construction of facilities that convert municipal waste into electricity, with a target to complete priority projects by early 2028. Both initiatives are part of the government's effort to improve food security and urban waste management.
