Indonesia's free nutritious meal program sees kitchen shutdowns in Bantul and Solo

In Bantul regency, the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) program operates through 135 SPPG units. As of early June 2026, 102 are active, 15 are still being prepared, and 18 have been temporarily closed. The closures stem from renovation work, unfinished administrative procedures, and specific incidents that require follow‑up, including problems with waste‑water treatment (IPAL) at several sites. Three kitchens stopped operating after notable incidents, while others await completion of facility upgrades or permit processing.

In Surakarta (Solo), eight MBG kitchens were suspended by the National Nutrition Agency because they did not meet required IPAL and hygiene standards. Mayor Respati Ardi said, "Kemarin dari Satgas sudah menyampaikan ada delapan yang disuspensi," noting that four kitchens have pledged to address the deficiencies while the remaining four remain non‑compliant. Authorities are pressing the kitchens to obtain the necessary environmental permits and improve sanitation before services can resume.
