Indonesia's Gunungkidul and Sukabumi Prepare Drought Relief Measures

In Gunungkidul Regency, the provincial disaster agency (BPBD) has identified 114,528 residents across 54 villages in 15 sub‑districts who may face water shortages during an extended dry season. The agency plans to drop clean water using a fleet of 1,150 tanks and has already begun distribution in villages such as Kemesu and Kamal, with additional areas to receive aid as needs grow.

In Sukabumi, West Java, the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) declared a three‑month drought alert starting 1 July 2026 and readied 5,000‑liter water‑tank trucks for rapid deployment. PMI will work with the local water utility, the district disaster agency and community officials to deliver water to affected neighborhoods, offering a hotline for requests and mobilising volunteers for handling and transport.
