Indonesia's Hajj Ministry Plans Service Improvements After 2026 Pilgrimage

Minister of Hajj and Umrah KH Moch Irfan Yusuf said the ministry is evaluating the 2026 Hajj operation as the pilgrimage season ends. By 8 June 2026, 120 groups comprising 47,012 Indonesian pilgrims had returned safely, with repatriation from Jeddah expected to continue until 15 June and the final group arriving on 1 July. The focus is on ensuring the return process is safe, comfortable and orderly, and on addressing shortcomings identified during the season. Improvements being considered include better crowd management at Mina, more timely transport, enhanced accommodation close to the Masjid al‑Harām, upgraded health screening, waste‑reduction measures, and standardized training for Hajj staff.

In Madinah, PPIH officers continue intensive visitations of pilgrim groups, giving special attention to elderly travelers and reinforcing correct understanding of the Arbain prayers. Staff highlighted the need for adequate hydration, appropriate physical effort, and medical support for seniors, who make up about 25 % of Indonesian pilgrims. Coordination between Indonesian and Saudi officials aims to meet these needs before the final departure to Indonesia.
