Indonesia's Hajj Ministry pledges care for hospitalized pilgrims as BPKH trims operating budget

The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah (Kemenhaj) announced it will continue to accompany the 60 Indonesian pilgrims still receiving treatment in Saudi Arabian hospitals until they are medically cleared to fly home, even though the 2026 Hajj operational period has ended. Minister Mochamad Irfan Yusuf said the ministry will also keep processing insurance claims for deceased pilgrims and thanked Saudi authorities and other stakeholders for their support.

Separately, the Hajj Funds Management Agency (BPKH) reduced its 2026 operational budget by about Rp 100.31 billion (an 18.6% cut), lowering the budget to Rp 439.32 billion. BPKH head Fadlul Imansyah assured that the cut will not affect service quality, investment management, or the sustainability of the hajj fund, emphasizing efficient use of resources and continued oversight.

Both announcements were made in Jakarta and were discussed with members of Indonesia’s DPR, underscoring the government’s effort to maintain hajj services and financial stewardship despite budgetary tightening.
