Indonesia's Hajj Pilgrims Return Inspires Calls for Social Reform

Medan city officials praised the smooth return of the 17th group of Hajj pilgrims on 21 June 2026. Dr. Adlan S. Pd and H. Agus Maryono, speaking on behalf of Mayor Rico Tri Putra Bayu Waas, wished the pilgrims health and blessings, saying, “Atas nama Wali Kota Medan, kami berharap para jemaah senantiasa diberikan kesehatan lahir dan batin…”

National religious organization LDII urged that the returning pilgrims become a catalyst for broader societal change. DPP chairman Dody Taufiq Wijaya emphasized that “Jika ditarik dari benang merah sejarah, para tokoh bangsa terdahulu sepulang dari tanah suci selalu membawa spirit perubahan,” and outlined three pillars—moral example, social cohesion, and economic empowerment through zakat and community projects—to translate the pilgrimage’s spiritual gains into concrete progress for Indonesia.
