Indonesia's Home Affairs Ministry gives fiscal incentives to top local governments and backs beach clean‑up in Lombok

On 20 May 2026, Indonesia's Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) announced a fiscal‑incentive program for high‑performing local governments in the Maluku and Nusa Tenggara regions, allocating one trillion rupiah to the scheme. Awards were given in categories such as poverty reduction, stunting reduction and creative financing. At the district level, Kabupaten Pulau Morotai received Best I, Kabupaten Halmahera Utara Best II and Kabupaten Halmahera Tengah Best III; Kota Ternate was the top city, while Province of North Maluku was recognised at the provincial level. The ceremony was presided over by senior ministers including the Minister of Housing and Settlement Development.

The day before, on 19 May 2026, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Bima Arya Sugiarto led a beach‑cleaning operation on Senggigi Beach in Lombok Barat, NTB, together with civil servants and cadets from the Institute of Domestic Governance (IPDN). The activity supported the national "Indonesia ASRI" (Safe, Healthy, Clean, Beautiful) campaign, a priority highlighted by President Prabowo for tourism destinations. Bima stressed the importance of continuous, community‑based cleanliness efforts beyond occasional events.
