Jakarta marks 499th anniversary with traffic rerouting, cultural shows and flood‑control pledges
Governor Pramono Anung led Jakarta’s 499th anniversary celebrations on 27‑28 June 2026 at Bundaran Hotel Indonesia. The city implemented extensive traffic engineering, closing sections of Sudirman‑Thamrin and rerouting vehicles through alternate corridors from 14:00 to 23:00 WIB. Twenty‑one designated parking pockets were prepared to accommodate about 12 295 cars, 8 186 motorcycles and 97 buses, while free or heavily subsidised fares were offered on Trans‑Jakarta, MRT, LRT and micro‑transit services.
Cultural programmes featured live performances by Mollucan Soul and other popular acts, drawing thousands of residents to the main stage. In his speech, Pramono also announced the revival of river‑normalisation projects on the Ciliwung, Krukut Lama, Cakung and other waterways to reduce flood risk in the capital.
The combined traffic, entertainment and infrastructure measures aimed to provide a smoother, safer celebration and signal the city’s commitment to improving residents’ daily life.
