IIM Bangalore to Open First Overseas Campus in Indonesia, Announced by PM Modi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB) will establish its first overseas campus in Indonesia’s Singhasari Special Economic Zone in Malang. The project will be rolled out in two phases, beginning with executive education programmes for senior officials and industry leaders, followed by full‑degree management courses. The curriculum will target five priority areas – global supply chains, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, climate change and health management.
Indonesia’s President‑elect Prabowo Subianto welcomed the initiative, stating that the Indian government also supports the possible creation of Indian Institutes of Technology in Indonesia and an increase in Indonesian students studying in India. A memorandum of understanding was also signed between IIMB and the Human Development Zone (KEK) Singhasari, linking the campus to broader digital‑economy and education programmes under Indonesia’s development strategy. The collaboration is presented as a milestone in India‑Indonesia strategic ties and aims to serve students across the ASEAN region.
