Indonesia's Lewotobi Laki-Laki and Ili Lewotolok volcanoes erupt
On 26 June 2026 at 05:43 WITA, Gunung Lewotobi Laki‑Laki in Nusa Tenggara Timur erupted, sending an ash column about 1.2 km (≈1,200 m) into the atmosphere. Authorities warned residents and visitors to stay at least 5 km from the summit and to follow local instructions.
During the same day, nearby Gunung Ili Lewotolok experienced 59 eruptions, with ash plumes reaching 200‑500 m high and occasional lava ejections. The PV MBG kept the volcano under a Level II (Waspada) alert, imposing a 2 km exclusion zone, urging the use of masks, eye protection and covering clean‑water supplies to avoid ash contamination.
