Indonesia's Lewotobi Volcano erupts, ash plume reaches up to 1,400 m
Gunung Lewotobi Laki‑Laki in East Nusa Tenggara erupted twice on 6–7 July 2026. The first eruption at 00:59 WITA on 6 July sent a grey ash column about 500 m high; seismographs recorded a maximum amplitude of 18.5 mm over 46 seconds. A second eruption on 7 July at 11:37 WITA produced a taller ash plume reaching roughly 1,400 m, with a 47.3 mm amplitude lasting 87 seconds.
Authorities from the PVMBG and local disaster agencies warned residents and visitors to stay at least 5 km from the vent, wear masks to avoid respiratory irritation, and be alert to rain‑triggered lahars in downstream valleys. The volcano remains on Alert Level III (Siaga) as of the latest reports.
