Indonesia's LPPOM urges businesses to begin halal certification before 2026 deadline

The Lembaga Pengkajian Pangan, Obat‑obatan, dan Kosmetika (LPPOM) has called on Indonesian entrepreneurs to start the halal certification process now rather than waiting until the October 18 2026 deadline for the government‑mandated Mandatory Halal October (WHO) 2026 program. The agency says early preparation will make it easier for firms to meet all certification requirements and support the smooth rollout of the policy.

VP Corporate Communication Raafqi Ranasasmita explained that early certification is not only a compliance issue but also a long‑term investment that can boost consumer confidence and product competitiveness. LPPOM will provide professional, independent inspections as well as education, outreach and assistance to businesses. Recent social‑media attention on a well‑known restaurant chain that lacks halal certification has underscored the message that popularity does not replace the need for official certification.
