LPPOM halal certification expansion

Overview

Indonesia’s halal authority, LPPOM, is intensifying its push for domestic compliance ahead of the October 18, 2026, mandatory halal certification deadline. LPPOM officials have urged businesses, including micro and small enterprises (UMK), to begin preparations immediately to ensure a smooth rollout of the government-mandated program.

To simplify the application process, LPPOM President Director Muti Arintawati advised business owners to prioritize raw materials that already hold clear halal certification. She also emphasized the necessity of dedicated production facilities to prevent cross-contamination. LPPOM noted that certification is not limited to Muslim entrepreneurs; non-Muslim owners may apply provided they meet all facility and production standards. To support this transition, LPPOM utilizes an ecosystem of 126 Halal Inspection Agencies and approximately 2,130 auditors across 34 provinces, aiming for domestic inspection completions within 15 days, subject to BPJPH regulatory timelines.

Simultaneously, LPPOM is expanding its international footprint. Through the LPPOM-YANO Halal Association—a joint venture with Japan’s Yano Economic Research Institute—LPPOM-Japan has secured recognition from Thailand’s halal regulator, CICOT. This allows LPPOM-Japan to provide certification for products destined for the Thai market, offering a ‘one-stop window’ for consulting, training, and market research for companies entering global halal markets.
