Indonesia's Marine Ministry launches seaweed aid in Jepara and fisheries recovery in Aceh

The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) approved a first‑phase funding package of about Rp9 billion for a seaweed cultivation program in the Karimunjawa area of Jepara. The plan covers 47 hectares within the Karimunjawa National Park, including 45 hectares of production fields, seed‑ling gardens, and the provision of five harvest boats and a maintenance vessel. The aid is intended for 10‑11 local seaweed farmer groups and is followed by a second phase of roughly 190 hectares, aiming to expand the cultivated area to more than 200 hectares.

In Aceh Besar, KKP is accelerating post‑disaster recovery of the fisheries sector after flash floods and landslides. Measures include fast‑tracking permits for coastal space use, addressing sedimentation that blocks navigation channels, and constructing the Red‑White Fishermen Village (KNMP). The ministry is also coordinating with provincial authorities to improve coastal infrastructure, support community empowerment and attract investment, with the goal of restoring fishers’ access to the sea and reviving the local economy.
