Indonesia's Marine Ministry speeds up salt and shrimp pond rehabilitation in Aceh

The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) is rehabilitating 90 salt‑production kitchens in Pidie, Aceh, to boost the output of local salt farmers. The effort includes installing brine‑refinery systems, tunnel‑garam geomembranes, new production channels and a communal salt warehouse, with plans to continue the programme through 2027.

At the same time, KKP is accelerating the restoration of shrimp ponds across Aceh, targeting 15,000 ha to be operational by the end of 2026. An initial 5,200 ha are slated to resume activity by September 2026, and 694 ha have already been re‑opened with seed and feed distribution. The ministry has also supplied excavators, boat‑engines and cool‑boxes to support fishers and pond growers, aiming to restore coastal livelihoods and increase aquaculture revenues.
