Yogyakarta Suspends 17 Free Nutrition Kitchens Over Permit Gaps
Seventeen Satuan Pelayanan Pemenuhan Gizi (SPPG) kitchens in the Special Region of Yogyakarta were temporarily suspended because they lacked complete permits and hygiene certification, according to the regional secretary and head of the MBG task force, Ni Made Dwipanti Indrayanti. The Badan Gizi Nasional (BGN) ordered the suspension; Yogyakarta has a total of 462 SPPG, of which 394 are operating, 51 are not yet operational, and 17 are suspended.
Nationally, the government is refocusing the Makan Bergizi Gratis (MBG) programme on areas with high child‑stunting rates. It plans to open new SPPG in Papua, Papua Pegunungan and Nusa Tenggara Timur within a month, while other regions will be addressed over the next two months. More than 13 000 SPPG sites have been prepared, prioritising remote and frontier (3T) areas.
Surveys show that 112 million Indonesians are malnourished (2024 Susenas) and 116 million lack sufficient protein and calories, according to BGN chief Sudaryono. The government is overhauling MBG governance, improving data validation, standardising kitchen operations, and urging partners not to stage further protests. In Lampung, four SPPG were permanently closed after failing a three‑month evaluation, and a total of 15 SPPG have been suspended there.
