Indonesia's Minister of Cooperatives Announces Rise in Gen Z Cooperative Start‑ups

Minister of Cooperatives Ferry Juliantono said interest among Generation Z in cooperative enterprises is growing, highlighted by new cooperatives for content creators, animators and young farmers. The Ministry of Cooperatives (Kemenkop) has received registrations for such initiatives and pledged support and mentoring to help them scale sustainably.

Juliantono noted that, as of 27 July 2026, Indonesia has 83,382 village‑level cooperatives, though many remain in early development. About 1,000 cooperatives in Central and East Java have begun operations, illustrating the expanding role of cooperatives in the creative and agricultural sectors.
