Indonesia's Ministry of Agriculture Accelerates Seed Permit Services

The Ministry of Agriculture, through the Plant Variety Protection and Agricultural Licensing Center (PVTPP), is speeding up licensing for the import and export of seeds and plant genetic resources (SDG). The move aims to simplify regulations, improve service quality and support the national goal of food self‑sufficiency and agricultural commodity downstream processing.

An assistance workshop was held at the Center for Modern Agriculture Implementation (BRMP) in Semarang, Central Java, bringing together seed producers and traders from across the region. PVTPP head Leli Nuryati said, “Transformasi layanan perizinan terus kami lakukan agar lebih sederhana, cepat, dan akuntabel.” Provincial agriculture chief Defransisco Dasilva Tavares added that Semarang’s large seed‑scale makes the event “sangat penting.”

The event also covered the new Ministerial Decree No. 130/2026 on certification and quarantine procedures, with officials from the Indonesian Quarantine Agency and the Ministry’s inspection directorate presenting guidance. Central Java hosts 195 active food‑seed producers and 218 horticulture‑seed producers, underscoring its role as a national seed hub.
