Indonesia's Ministry of Industry pushes holistic development for small and medium industries

The Indonesian Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) has emphasized the need for a holistic approach to developing small and medium industries (IKM) to ensure sustainable business competitiveness. Reni Yanita, Director General of Small, Medium, and Miscellaneous Industries, stated that development must encompass the downstreaming of superior commodities, technology adoption, product innovation, and the enhancement of capital and human resources.

IKM development currently faces several integrated challenges, including financing, digital literacy, supply chain management, and competition from cheap imported goods. To address these, the Ministry is implementing programs focused on facilitating access to raw materials, production infrastructure, and market expansion. A key strategy involves strengthening partnerships to integrate IKMs into the supply chains of larger industries, helping them scale up and increase export penetration.
