Indonesia's Ministry of Labor expands training and internship programs

The Ministry of Labour (Kemnaker) announced a revamp of its functional officer training, shifting to a competency‑based curriculum that combines Massive Open Online Courses with on‑the‑job practice. The reform targets inspectors, mediators, safety examiners and other officials to improve public service quality.

Kemnaker also completed a mapping mission to Japan, identifying demand for Indonesian workers in sectors such as automotive, construction, agriculture and caregiving. The findings will guide vocational curricula, language training and safety standards to better match Japanese industry requirements.

In parallel, the government launched the 2026 National Internship (Magang Nasional) program, opening registration for up to 150,000 fresh graduates. Participants will undertake six‑month placements in private firms or state‑owned enterprises, receiving stipends tied to local minimum wages and benefits such as BPJS coverage. Applications are processed through the SIAPkerja platform.

The Ministry of Migrant Workers (KP2MI) coordinated with eleven other ministries to prepare the SMK Go Global program, aiming to train 40,000 prospective migrant workers by the end of 2026. The initiative will certify participants in eight priority sectors and support their placement in over 130 destination countries.
