Indonesia's National Health Insurance faces data and payment challenges

Indonesia’s National Health Insurance (JKN) program is facing scrutiny regarding data accuracy, legal challenges, and payment sustainability. Members of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) have raised concerns about the National Socio-Economic Single Data (DTSEN), noting that inaccuracies in decile classifications could lead to the wrongful deactivation of health subsidies for poor families.

In North Sumatra, healthcare workers in Labuanbatu have reported being policed after criticizing the transparency of JKN and health operational fund management. Meanwhile, BPJS Kesehatan is attempting to address payment arrears through the REHAB 3.0 program. This initiative allows participants to pay off outstanding premiums through flexible installment plans, including daily options starting from Rp10,000, which can be managed via the Mobile JKN application.
